CUPERTINO, CA – Apple officially kicked off its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026 at Apple Park, marking a pivotal moment in the company’s history. In what was Tim Cook’s final keynote as CEO before John Ternus assumes the role this September, Apple laid out a transformative vision centered on advanced AI integration.

The highlight of the event was the introduction of Apple Intelligence and a completely rebuilt, "conversational" Siri AI, powered by foundational technology from a deep collaboration with Google Gemini.

Key Highlights of the WWDC 2026 Keynote:
The All-New Siri AI: Re-engineered from the ground up, the new Siri is more capable, conversational, and system-wide. It features a new design within the Dynamic Island, a customizable voice with adjustable expressivity, and "Visual Intelligence" that allows users to point their iPhone at objects—like food for nutritional facts or bills for splitting costs—to receive instant insights.

Apple Intelligence Across the Ecosystem: Apple showcased how its new generative models will enhance core apps:

Photos: New tools include image generation for wallpapers/backgrounds, an "Extend" tool for background adjustment, and "Spatial Reframing."

Safari: AI now organizes tabs into topics and offers smart, related tab suggestions.

Passwords: The dedicated app can now detect exposed passwords and automatically update them.

Communication: Messages and Calendar will leverage Apple Intelligence to suggest reminders, extract events, and find relevant context.

Availability and Privacy: Apple Intelligence and the new Siri will launch as a beta in the U.S. later this year, initially supporting English. Notably, Apple will not launch Siri AI in the EU or China for the time being, citing privacy regulations and local compliance requirements.

Software Updates:

iOS 27: Focuses on performance, with apps launching 30% faster and system-wide improvements. It will be compatible with iPhone 11 and newer models.

MacOS Golden Gate: Announced alongside refinements to the "Liquid Glass" design language introduced in previous iterations.

VisionOS 27: Adds Siri AI and 3D visualizations to the Apple Vision Pro.

A Transition in Leadership
The keynote served as a celebratory send-off for Tim Cook, who emphasized that Apple’s "north star" has always been creating products that serve human needs. As he prepares to pass the reins to John Ternus, Cook expressed confidence in the future, noting, "I truly believe the best is still ahead."

The WWDC 2026 event continues through June 12, with developers already gaining access to early betas of the upcoming operating systems.
